Life and Death Opportunity.

In a magical Welsh forest, the ghost Gwenevere has one chance to swap places with Efa, a lively young girl. As the pair connect, Gwenevere faces a heartbreaking choice: reclaim her life and force the girl become a lonely ghost, or allow Efa live her life to the fullest, and for herself to remain in purgatory. Ultimately, she sacrifices her chance for freedom, urging Efa to cherish every moment, as she fades back into the mist.

Poster and Trailer.

This stop-motion animated short brings a haunting yet heartfelt twist to the Welsh folktale ‘The Grey Lady of Taff’s Well.’ It follows a naive young girl who stumbles upon a ghost desperate to reclaim her lost life - by swapping places with the child.

In the original myth, the ghost appears once a century, luring unsuspecting souls into holding her hands firmly. But when the victims release her grip in pain, she is doomed to remain trapped in the ghostly realm for another 100 years.

In this retelling, the ghost’s motives take a turn. As she prepares to steal the girl’s life, she is overcome with guilt, realising the cruelty of condemning an innocent child to her lonely fate. Instead of the human breaking the bond, it is the ghost who lets go - choosing to be a ghost for eternity rather than forcing another soul to her suffering. In that fleeting moment, she embraces her fate, fading away with the quiet understanding that some things, even in death, are not meant to be taken.
